Taxi owner shot dead in Tembisa
Cases of murder and attempted murder have been opened after a taxi owner was shot and killed at the Sangweni taxi rank in Tembisa, Gauteng.
Gauteng police spokesperson Katlego Mogale told The Citizen the 53-year-old unidentified man was at the taxi rank when a white vehicle stopped and opened fire at about 11am this morning.
“A police officer and a bystander were wounded as the suspects fired shots at police”, said Mogale.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital, police said.
The deceased’s younger brother told The Citizen he received a call to inform him that his brother had been shot dead at the taxi rank.
He added that he was devastated by the shooting, as he had spoken to his brother shortly before the incident.
No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.
Earlier this month, a 60-year-old taxi owner was shot dead in Norkem Park, Gauteng.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Sekgobela said Rapson Mbazima Ngoveni was gunned down in his car at 5.30pm on the corner of Mooirivier Drive and Maraboe Street.
Sekgobela said Ngoveni was driving a grey 4×4 Chevrolet Trailblazer when he stood at a stop sign, and a white Toyota Tazz stopped close to him.
The occupants walked up to his vehicle and opened fire. He died on the scene, added Sekgobela.
