Man arrested after KZN taxi shooting

A man has been arrested after a shooting at a taxi rank in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said there had been an altercation at the taxi rank this morning, South Coast Herald reported.

An officer on duty at the taxi rank reportedly heard shots being fired before he saw a man running.

“[The officer] apprehended the man, and when he was searched, he was found to be in possession of a .38 revolver with rounds in the chamber,” Wiid added.

The man was then arrested and taken to the police station.

No cases have yet been opened and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Earlier this month, three people were shot and one suspect arrested in an alleged taxi violence dispute in Sunninghill, in the north of Johannesburg.

According to police, the violence had started on Woodmead Drive, near the R55.

The suspect was arrested for attempted murder, and a firearm was later confiscated.

Hours earlier, a taxi owner was shot dead at Bree Taxi Rank in the Johannesburg CBD.

Two unknown gunmen allegedly approached the victim from opposite sides and shot him in the back.

The suspects then reportedly “disappeared” into the busy rank and the taxi owner was later declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
