Tip-off leads to drug bust

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after drugs worth a street value of R15 000 were found in his flat in Birch Acres, Kempton Park, in Gauteng.

Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said the metro police’s equestrian unit responded to a tip-off received from concerned community members, Kempton Express reported.

Kgasago added: “Officers swooped on the suspect’s flat on Bontelsie Street at 8am on Tuesday, where they came across 100 ziplock bags containing the drug, cat. They also found a small amount of dagga.”

The owner of the flat was arrested, and he was charged with possession of drugs and dealing in illegal substances.

The case was filed at Norkem Park Police Station.

Earlier this month, two Nigerian men and a South African woman were arrested for drug possession and drug dealing.

Drugs worth a street value of R1 million were allegedly found in their house in Secunda, police said.

In a similar incident, a South African primary school teacher and five Nigerians were arrested on Saturday in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, for alleged possession of drugs.

Following a tip-off, officers watched an exchange between two of the Nigerians in a silver Daewoo and a man in a Ford Figo on Hendrik Potgieter Street.

The three were arrested for possession of methcathinone (cat).
