Security guard shot dead in Boksburg
A case of murder has been opened after the body of a security guard in his 20s was found by a passerby next to a traffic light in Delmore Garden, Boksburg, on the East Rand.
Reiger Park police spokesperson Sergeant Mashudu Phathela said the officers responded at about 8.20pm yesterday to a report of a man unresponsively lying on the ground, Boksburg Advertiserreported.
The guard, identified as Terence Swinney, had sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was declared dead on the scene, added Phathela.
The deceased’s cellphone, wallet containing MONEY
and a small bag were found on him, police said.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown.
Phathela urges eyewitnesses to come forward with information and to contact the Reiger Park police on 011-916-7000.
In January, two Metrorail security guards were shot dead in Effingham, KwaZulu-Natal.
A security guard supervisor had been visiting the two guards who were on duty when an argument ensued.
Police said the supervisor had allegedly shot dead both the security guards and removed a firearm from one of the victims before fleeing the scene.
No arrests had been made.
