Woman arrested for allegedly killing step child
A case of murder is under investigation after a 28-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her step daughter in Kamhlushwa, Mpumalanga.
Tonga police spokesperson Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyambi said police received a call informing them the community of Kamhlushwa had gone to Mzinti Trust, where Klara Masinga confessed to giving the child an overdose of medicine and dumping her body in the bushes next to her house on Sunday, Mpumalanga News reported.
Nyambi said the body was found in a bush next to Mlumati River, about 200m from the suspect’s house, covered with used pampers and an empty bag of mielie meal.
“The body was then taken to Tonga state mortuary for postmortem, and the mother of the deceased will be given counselling,” added Nyambi.
The suspect will appear in the Tonga Magistrates’ Court soon.
In a separate incident, a 24-year-old Mpumalanga woman suspected of being mentally ill was arrested last Wednesday for choking and biting her one-year-old daughter to death.
This was after community members reported that she was seen attacking her daughter at about 2am.
Tonga police spokesperson Lieutenant Mzwandile Nyambi said when police arrived on the scene, they found the deceased lying on the ground with bite marks on the upper body and scratch marks on the neck.
After her arrest, the accused was taken to a local hospital under police guard, added Nyambi.
