Boy, 5, found stabbed following Boksburg hijacking
A five-year-old boy was found with a stab wound inside a stolen vehicle, and is reportedly in a stable condition after an alleged hijacking in Boksburg, Gauteng.
Boksburg Police Station commander Colonel Biggs Govender said the boy was stabbed in the stomach. He was taken to the Union Hospital, where he was operated on, Boksburg Advertiserreported.
“The car was stolen in Trichards Road last night. However, it was recovered a couple of hours later near the Boksburg prison,” added Govender. The victim told police he was with the child in the car when he suddenly noticed someone walking in the middle of the lane he was driving in, said Govender.
“The victim said he stopped to allow the pedestrian to cross, but instead the pedestrian pulled out a firearm, pointed at him and ordered him out of the car. After a struggle had ensued, the victim said he found himself in the bush with his vehicle stolen and the child missing,” said Govender.
With the help of Altech Netstar, the location of the stolen vehicle was tracked, which led to the police recovering the vehicle and finding the boy, added Govender. No arrests have been. Investigations are ongoing.
In March, a 48-year-old father was allegedly killed by hijackers, while his son survived the attack in Moorton, KwaZulu-Natal. It is believed prior to the killing, the suspects had hijacked a gold Toyota Corolla vehicle in Montford.
Chatsworth police spokesperson Lieutenant Cheryl Pillay said the driver of a gold Toyota Corolla was allegedly accosted by two males, one of whom was armed, before robbing him of his vehicle. “The son managed to escape, and the suspects drove off towards the Chatsworth SAPS Training Academy with the father still in the vehicle. The father was found with gunshot wounds on the road, which is approximately 500 metres from the crime scene of the hijacking,” added Pillay.
