Two police officers killed after responding to hijacking
The hijacked vehicle has since been recovered in Klipspruit, Soweto.
The National Commissioner of Police General Khehla John Sithole, has condemned the killing of two police officers in Winchester Hills, south of Johannesburg last night. Sithole ordered a manhunt for those responsible.
According to Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, Spokesperson for the National Commissioner of Police, “Last night, November 23, around 8pm, Captain and a Warrant Officer responded to a hi-jacking complaint at Leonie Street, Winchester Hills shortly after he visited the Booysens Police Station as the duty officer.”
Two members of SAPS came under fire and they were both fatally wounded at Vleiroos Street while on their way to the complaint, added Vishnu Naidoo
The hijacked vehicle has since been recovered in Klipspruit, Soweto.
Police appeal to anyone with information to please contact Crime Stop number 086 00 10111. Callers may remain anonymous and all information will be treated with strictest confidence, said General Sithole.
