Mother’s dead body found hanging from jungle gym
An inquest docket has been opened after the body of a 26-year-old woman was found inside a children’s jungle gym on Lubbe Road in Wentworth, in KwaZulu-Natal.
The body of the mother of two children, Lucy Shozi, was discovered by a resident on his way to work on Monday. It is believed she was found with a rope around her neck, which was tied to a bar of the jungle gym, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.
The tragic incident has left members of the community in shock, as Shozi was known in the area. DA ward councillor Aubrey Snyman, who was at the scene, described the discovery as a sad incident.
“My heart really goes out to her family, who are now receiving counselling at the police station. It’s heartbreaking to see a young person lose their life in such a way. I urge the police to do a thorough investigation, as I feel that this was foul play, and anyone who is responsible for her death needs to be brought to book,” said Snyman.
It is alleged a male overall jacket was found hidden in a nearby tree, and upon investigation, house keys, a cellphone and her ID document were still inside the jacket.
A woman, whose niece is close friends with the deceased, said the last time they spoke was last Thursday. She showed no signs of distress or problems, except financial problems, which included her struggle to pay rent.
In May, the body of a 16-year-old boy was found hanging from a tree at St Stithians College in Bryanston, in the north of Johannesburg.
“It appears to have been a suicide and the paramedics declared him dead at the scene,” Odendaal said. He added that the police and the school were working together in the investigation.
