Spoil your Valentine with these fun heart cookies

Nothing says "I love you" like freshly baked, heart-shaped cookies and a special message written in chocolate sauce.

If you want to spoil your Valentine with something sweet but simple, these bright little heart cookies are an easy win. They look adorable on a plate and taste buttery and soft.

Ingredients

  • 250 g butter, softened
  • 150 g castor sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 5 ml vanilla
  • 2½ cups flour
  • A few drops red or pink food colouring
  • Icing sugar for dusting
  • Chocolate sauce for writing or decorating

Method

Cream the butter and sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla and mix until combined.
Add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms. Add the food colouring and knead gently until the colour is even.
Wrap the dough and chill it for 20 minutes so it firms up a little.
Roll the dough out on a floured surface. Use a heart shaped cutter to cut out your cookies.
Place the hearts on a lined baking tray. Bake at 180°C for 10 to 12 minutes until set but still light in colour. Let them cool completely.
Dust with icing sugar or decorate with chocolate sauce. Write a little message on the serving plate if you want to add something extra.
