Hot buttered rum with apple juice, honey, and cinnamon
This autumn hot buttered rum blends apple, honey, lemon and dark rum into a smooth, spiced cocktail with easy variations to suit your taste.
As the temperatures begin to drop, a warm glass of hot buttered rum provides the perfect comfort. This version blends sweet apple juice with dark rum, fresh lemon, and honey, finished with a little butter for richness and a dusting of cinnamon for spice.
Ingredients
- 60 ml dark rum
- 125 ml fresh apple juice
- 10 ml fresh lemon juice
- 15 ml honey
- 1 teaspoon unsalted butter, softened
- Pinch ground cinnamon
- Cinnamon stick or lemon twist, to garnish
- Hot water, to top up
Method
- Add the butter and honey to a heatproof glass or mug.
- Pour in the hot apple juice and stir until the butter has melted.
- Add the dark rum and lemon juice, then stir to combine.
- Top up with a splash of hot water if needed and sprinkle over the cinnamon.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick or lemon twist and serve while hot.
Tip: Add a slice of fresh ginger or a pinch of ground nutmeg along with the cinnamon for extra warmth.
