1 dead, 1 critical after KZN driver overpowers hijackers
A motorist managed to take a gun from one of his hijackers and allegedly fired shots at them.
One suspect was shot dead, one is in critical condition, and two are still at large after they tried to hijack a motorist on Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Clairwood, KZN, this afternoon.
According to an article published by Southlands Sun, preliminary reports from the scene indicate that four suspects tried to hijack a driver on Solomon Mahlangu Drive, but the driver was quick to disarm one of them and allegedly opened fire on them – killing one.
The spokesperson for PT Alarms, Dhevan Govindasamy, confirmed the incident and says two suspects fled the scene after the shooting.
Spokesperson for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics Garrith Jamieson says when paramedics arrived at the scene, the police and EMRS were already there.
“Two men [were] lying in a pool of blood. Immediately, ALS Paramedics assessed both men and found that the one had sustained major injuries as a result of gunshot wounds… There was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.
“The second man was found to be in a critical condition, with a gunshot wound to his head, and ALS Paramedics worked to stabilise him before placing him on a manual ventilator and rushing him to a nearby hospital,” says Jamieson.
Emergency services were still at the scene at the time of publishing and the public was advised to avoid the area.
