2 young women shot in the head, bodies found in Mamelodi

Authorities are appealing for information as detectives work to determine the motive behind two women's murders.

Two women, aged 21 and 22, were found shot in the head on Sompisi Street in Mamelodi East this morning.

Pretoria Rekord reports that, according to police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk, police officers from SAPS Mamelodi East were summoned to Sompisi Street in Extension 17, Mamelodi East, at about 06:15, after community members discovered the women’s bodies.

Images seen by Pretoria Rekord show two women, dressed similarly in white skirts and black shirts, both with long braided hair, suggesting they were together shortly before the attack.

Both women had gunshot wounds to the head, says Van Dyk.

“A double murder investigation has been opened,” he adds.

At the time of publishing, crime scene experts were processing the scene for evidence and possible leads.

“The motive for this horrific incident is unknown at this stage,” says Van Dyk.

SAPS is appealing to members of the community to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation.

Anyone with information can contact SAPS Mamelodi East directly, use the MySAPS app, or call Crime Stop at 0800 10111.
