5 killed, 6 injured in Bronkhorstspruit tavern shooting: 1 suspect arrested
While police have arrested a man in connection with a tavern shooting that left numerous people dead, a second suspect is still at large.
Police have made a breakthrough and arrested one of two suspects in connection with a deadly tavern shooting in Bronkhorstspruit.
Pretoria Rekord reports that the shooting happened in Zithobeni on October 5, resulting in five deaths and six serious injuries.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili says provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Investigations, working with members from SAPS Bronkhorstspruit, made a breakthrough and arrested the suspect during a tracing operation in Zithobeni yesterday.
He will appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, facing five charges of murder and six charges of attempted murder.
“Five of the victims who were admitted to hospital for medical attention have since been discharged, while the sixth remains in hospital.”
Witnesses reported that two men, known in the community, came into the tavern and demanded that one of the patrons hand over his licensed firearm.
“A shot went off, and when the patrons ran outside, the suspects fired randomly. The patron with a firearm was shot and injured, and his firearm was taken.”
