Alexandra man allegedly rapes woman in public
A 28-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman in broad daylight outside a block of flats on 12th Avenue in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.
Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela said the woman apparently had been walking down the street at 5.30pm last Friday when the man, who is known to her, asked to accompany her, Alex News reported.
“As they were passing between two blocks of flats, the man allegedly grabbed the woman, pulled down her leggings and panties and ordered her to face and touch the wall,” added Ramotshela.
He allegedly raped her in full public view without a condom before leaving her. The woman is said not to have screamed, as she was afraid of the man, Ramotshela said.
She reported the incident to the police, leading to his arrest. He will appear in court after investigations are concluded.
In a separate incident, a 31-year-old woman was raped and robbed in her house after two men stormed into her house in Vlakplaas, Centurion, in Gauteng.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the woman was raped in her bedroom when the two suspects broke into her house in April.
The suspects pointed a firearm at the victim and ordered her to undress, Moloto added.
“One man raped her, and thereafter they took her cellphone, clothing and jewellery before fleeing the scene. The items are estimated to a value of R5 000,” said Moloto.
