Alleged drug dealer arrested in KZN
A 36-year-old man has been arrested for the possession of drugs and unlicensed firearms at Everham, in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal.
Provincial police spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane said police received a tip-off about the area. Upon their arrival on Wednesday, a search was conducted and 4 780 mandrax tablets, 60 straws of heroin and two unlicensed firearms with seven live rounds of ammunition were recovered, Phoenix Sun reported.
“The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used in the commission of any other crime in the country,” added Zwane.
KwaZulu-Natal’s provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the arrest.
The suspect appeared in the Phoenix Magistrates` Court.
In a separate incident, a 29-year-old man was arrested for the possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R35 000 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, last month.
Spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the arrest took place at around 4pm in Wentworth, Durban.
“Members proceeded to the suspect’s flat in Wentworth and found him busy packing cocaine in small plastic bags and was arrested,” said Zwane.
