Anti-lockdown, vaccine march to affect CBD streets

March organisers want lockdown regulations eased and for life to return to the normal people were used to before the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

A march against goverment measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and the vaccination drive was expected to affect traffic along several streets in the Pretoria CBD on Monday.

The march, organised by the Party of Action (PoA), would commence at the corner of Madiba and Kgosi Mampuru streets and proceed to the Union Buildings where a memorandum would be handed over to a representative from the president’s office.

“The march is against lockdown and its regulations that have impacted negatively on South Africans, especially the poor and marginalised under the false pretence of a virus that cannot be shown to the citizens,” PoA spokesperson Obakeng Makale said.

“7, 8 million jobs have been lost and that is why we saw that we are being taken for a ride by this government where only one thing is being pushed as the only solution without the consideration of other avenues of treatment such as Ivermectin and hydrochloquine.”

Makale said their main goals were to have lockdown regulations eased and for life to return to the normal people were used to before the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

Meanwhile, Tshwane metro police department (TMPD) spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the march would commence at 10:00.

“From Kgosi Mampuru Street, they will join Madiba Street and proceed straight until they reach the Union Building,” he said.

The following streets were expected to be affected for the duration of the march:

– Bosman Street

– Paul Kruger Street

– Thabo Sehume Street

– Lilian Ngoyi Street

– Nelson Mandela Drive

– Steve Biko Street

Motorists were urged to use alternative routes such as:

– Nana Sita Street

– Visagie Street

– Struben Street

– Francis Baard Street

– Pretorius Street

The marchers were expected to disperse from the Union Buildings at 13:00.

“TMPD officers will be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets,” Mahamba said.

They are expected to disperse from the Union Buildings at 13:00.
