Armed men hit Dundee Pep Stores – again

Both Pep Stores in Dundee have been targeted by criminals in recent months

Staff at Pep Stores were again held at gunpoint and robbed when six men walked into the Victoria Street branch in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal at about 4.15pm yesterday.

Witnesses who were in the shop at the time said six men walked in all wearing Covid-19 masks. Staff were ordered at gunpoint to go behind the tills. Some customers ran out but others were kept in the shop by one of the robbers posted at the door.

One of the female staff was taken into the office by the men and ordered to open the safe from where cash was taken. New cellphones were also taken from a cabinet with the men only targeting the more expensive models. Money was also taken from the tills.

No customers were injured but several, who were there with young children, were left traumatised by the robbery. The gang left the shop, seemingly making their getaway on foot.

SAPS were called in and it is estimated that around R10 000 in cash was taken. Both Pep Stores in Dundee have been targeted by robbers over the past 12 months, leaving many to suspect that the same gang is involved.

The Victoria Street store has also suffered numerous burglaries in recent years.
