Covid-19 confirmed cases in South Africa rises to 1 187
The National Ministry of Health confirmed on Saturday evening that the official number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country, now stands at 1 187.

What is of concern, according to the official statement, is the rising number of infected health workers who work both in the public and private sector. Health workers remain at the frontline of the battle against the coronavirus.
In the Free State, three doctors, one nurse and one neurophysiologist have tested positive for Covid-19, while in Gauteng, six medical doctors contracted the virus.
These cases were besides those of medical doctors in both Mpumalanga and Limpopo, who contracted the virus earlier and who have been reported on.
According to the ministry, most of health workers showed mild symptoms or none at all.
“It must be emphasised that none of these health workers were infected by the patients they were treating. They came into contact with their family members, friends and other colleagues wo had tested positive for the virus,” according to the statement.
All contacts of these health workers have been put into quarantine.
