Decomposing body found in Pretoria home

The decomposing body of an unknown man was found in a house in Moreleta Park, in the east of Pretoria, on Tuesday afternoon.

Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said a call was received from a concerned neighbour at about 3:30pm on Tuesday, Rekord East reported.

“According to the caller, he did not see his neighbour for some time and the lights of the house remained on,” she said.

Weilbach said Garsfontein police and the fire brigade went to investigate the house. Once inside, the police found the decomposing body of an unknown white man, believed to be between 35- and 45-years-old, in the kitchen.

According to another neighbour, paramedics found blood next to the man’s body upon entering the house. Weilbach said the police do not suspect foul play at this stage.

“An autopsy will be ordered to determine the cause of death,” said Weilbach.

Last month, a group of cow herdsmen stumbled upon the burnt and decomposing body of a man near the railway line on Eastbury Drive in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal.

KZN VIP security spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said the herdsmen stopped a passing security vehicle when they found the body. It is alleged the man, believed to be in his early 20s, could have been a vagrant whose body was burnt and left to decompose.
