Domestic worker’s head covered with towel during house robbery
No arrests have been made after four armed men wearing balaclavas and gloves stormed into a house in La Lucia, KwaZulu-Natal earlier yesterday.
Tyron Powell from Marshall Security said a domestic worker was accosted by the suspects in the main bedroom and ordered to put a towel over her head to cover her eyes, Northglen Newsreported.
“Both the domestic worker and the gardener were at home when the men stormed in. Two of the men were armed with handguns. They repeatedly asked the domestic worker where the safe was. They then stole a flat-screen television, a camera, jewellery and laptops.
“During the robbery the suspects spotted the gardener outside and chased after him. He fled the scene and managed to jump over a fence into a neighbouring property on Millhaven Place. The resident then alerted the police and the security company,” Powell said.
The suspects fled in a getaway vehicle. No one was hurt in the incident, he added.
Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, an elderly couple and their domestic worker were attacked when the three suspects invaded their home in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal in February. The three suspects were sought by police after one person died during a house robbery. It remains unclear which one of the victims died during the incident.
