Elderly man’s body found in Apies River – police

The body of an unidentified elderly man has been found in the Apies River in Pretoria this morning, police said.

Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier said the body was found in the Apies River in Wonderboompoort,Rekord Moot reported.

“It is believed that the deceased might have fallen into the river near Marabastad in the city and drowned, and that the water could have carried him towards our area, where the body was washed up,” Olivier said.

She added that police were waiting for the autopsy results to determine the cause of death and to establish if there had been any foul play.

“We urge families whose loved ones are missing to contact their nearest police station,” said Olivier.

Earlier this month, the body of an unidentified man was found in Centurion Lake by a security guard who was patrolling the area.

It was believed that the man had died of natural causes. However, police said they would investigate the possibility of foul play.
