Eskom ramps up power cuts: Stage 6 implemented until further notice

Unit trips at three power stations necessitated the implementation of stage 6 load-shedding.

Stage 6 load-shedding was be implemented from 01:30 after Eskom yesterday announced stage 3 power cuts from 17:30.

The power utility says the latest power cuts was because of several unit trips at Camden Power Station, following multiple unit trips at Majuba and Medupi power stations. Currently, there is no indication on how long load-shedding will last.

“To replenish emergency reserves and prepare for the week ahead, stage 6 load-shedding was essential,” an Eskom statement reads.

A media briefing hosted by the Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa and Eskom will be held at 11:00 to provide more information.
