Estcourt mass shooting: More suspects arrested

Five men arrested in connection with the murder of five people are due to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

Police have made five more arrests linked to the mass shooting in Loskop in Escourt, KZN, on Sunday.

One of the suspected gunmen was arrested on Sunday after being found injured in hospital.

Five people were killed and one was injured during the shooting.

Police were quick to launch a manhunt for the five killers who were still at large.

According to a statement by the SAPS, an operation led by Crime Intelligence yesterday afternoon uncovered the suspects’ cooling-off spot in Acaciavale, Ladysmith.

“Five suspects were found hiding in a room and were arrested.

“They were found in possession of two AK-47 assault rifles with 115 rounds of ammunition, two pistols with 12 rounds of ammunition, one .38 Special revolver with one round of ammunition, and a vehicle they used as the getaway car from the crime scene,” the SAPS’ statement read.

The five men, aged between 23 and 46, will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Thereafter, they will be taken to Estcourt to face multiple murder charges.
