A Boksburg East family is seeking justice as they suspect foul play in connection with the death of Porcha Elzane Maroetsie (25) on April 21.

According to her sister Sienoline, Porcha picked up her eight-year-old son from Laerskool Goudrand and on her way home an acquaintance invited her into his property on Railway Road in the vicinity of the train.

“The acquaintance’s wife offered her a drink, which she accepted. After she drank the drink she passed out and the owner of the house told her son to go to another room, where his children were. He managed to get out and informed us about what happened. I went to the house with my boyfriend. When I got inside I saw my sister was unconscious on the bed.

“We took her outside and the acquaintance threw water over her face in an attempt to wake her up. It didn’t work and we took her to the hospital, but she already died when we arrived.

“Unfortunately we don’t know the exact cause of death because we are still awaiting post-mortem results but were told at the hospital it was an overdose.”

Siena said the family suspects Porcha was murdered as she didn’t use drugs and wouldn’t have taken her own life.

“Porcha was a quiet and responsible person. Our suspicion is that her drink was spiked and it was too strong. We also believe she might have been raped as her tights were pulled down to her knees when I found her. We are just still awaiting confirmation.

“The owner and wife are also drug users,” said the sister.

Siena highlighted Porcha’s son is now in a place of safety.

Sergeant Ntsako Ledwaba confirmed an inquest docket was opened and police are waiting for the autopsy results.
Ward 32 Clr Marius de Vos said, “In my opinion, gender-based violence in South Africa is a disaster. Women’s rights are getting violated on a daily basis by men. In Boksburg, it is usually Nigerian men who violate our children’s rights, especially girls. They lure them with money, drugs and alcohol and at the end of the day, it leads to death.

“Mayor Tania Campbell mentioned in her State of the City Address that she is going to deploy 480 more police officers on the streets to curb gender-based violence, get drugs off the streets and ensure effective policing.

“Let us hope that investigations will prove fruitful.”
