Foreign national killed in fight

Investigations are ongoing after a man believed to be a Mozambican national was beaten to death following an alleged brawl.

A neighbour of the deceased, who witnessed the incident, claimed the man was drinking with a man when they started fighting on Valentine’s Day in Klein Elandsvlei, Gauteng, Randfontein Herald reported.

According to the neighbour, the two were said to have started fighting “in the road as they left for the deceased’s house. The deceased was then hit with some object”.

The man later died in hospital.

The neighbour said: “We are trying to make arrangements for the body, but he has no family here”.

In November, two suspects were arrested for the murder of a foreign national tuck-shop owner in Bayview, KwaZulu-Natal.

The 26-year-old Ethiopian national identified as Tekelane Mane Abebe, sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder and died at the scene.

Chatsworth police spokesperson Lieutenant Cheryl Pillay said Abebe was gunned down outside his business premises on Lenny Naidu Drive.

The motive for the killing remains unclear.

In a separate incident, one person was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a foreign national in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, in September last year.

The 24-year-old victim was allegedly grabbed by three men, while a fourth stabbed him once in the chest outside a shop on Allen Street.

Three suspects remain at large after fleeing the scene of the incident in a blue sedan.
