Former Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste dies

Jooste allegedly killed himself after being fined for millions a day earlier.

Markus Jooste, former Steinhoff CEO, has died after he allegedly shot himself this afternoon.

News of his death comes a day after the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) issued him with a penalty of R475m.

The FSCA said Jooste made or published false, misleading, or deceptive statements about Steinhoff International Holdings Limited and Steinhoff International Holdings NV.

The FSCA also said it plans to open a criminal case with the Hawks.

Moneyweb reported that the penalty was payable before April 19.
