Gauteng Covid-19 active cases at 15 788

223 new cases recorded.

Gauteng’s overall Covid-19 positive cases climbed to 227 559 with 207 060 recoveries and 4 711 deaths thus far, according to figures published by the Department of Health.

This saw the province having about 15 788 active cases.

The Gauteng province recorded 223 new cases on Tuesday.

The Department of Health said out of 150 189 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 132 062  people have completed the 10 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 1 718.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

  •  Johannesburg: 90 678 cases and 84 999  recoveries
  •  Ekurhuleni: 50 684  cases and 49 370 recoveries
  •  Tshwane: 51 564 cases and 48 359 recoveries
  • Sedibeng: 15 349   cases and 11 934  recoveries
  • West Rand: 14 539 cases and 12 398 recoveries

  • Merafong City: 3 041 cases;
  • And 104 unallocated cases.
