Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 15 898

Number of confirmed cases increases by 1 278 since Wednesday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 15 898 with 4 001 recoveries on Thursday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Friday.

The department said out of 21 402  contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person tested positive for Covid-19), 13 823 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

No new deaths were recorded, the total remained at 87.

The department said 686 people were currently hospitalised in the public and private facility.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 7 899 cases and 2 188 recoveries
– Ekurhuleni: 3 192 cases and 890 recoveries
– Tshwane: 2 357 cases and 525 recoveries
– Sedibeng: 497 cases and 110 recoveries
– West Rand: 1 130 cases and 288 recoveries
