Hijackers shoot two officers and police dog

A suspect has been fatally shot, while two officers, a police dog and a second suspect were wounded in a shootout in Ntuzuma, KwaZulu-Natal, today.

A vehicle was allegedly hijacked, and police pursued the armed suspects, Phoenix Sun reported.

KZN VIP spokesperson Romano Naidoo said there was an exchange of gunfire, where two officers were hit, and a suspect sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

The officers are in a stable condition, while the police dog from the Dog Unit is believed to be in a critical condition. The condition of the injured suspect is unknown.

“KZN VIP response units, together with police, stood down at the scene. The suspects continued to fire at personnel on the scene before fleeing. The injured were stabilised on the scene before being rushed to hospital for further treatment,” said Naidoo.

Two suspects remain at large.

Last week, a former police officer shot and killed during a robbery at his home in Linden, Johannesburg.

Andre Fabricius and his family were allegedly attacked by three men armed with a gun and axes.

Fabricius was reportedly shot in the heart while his wife and 13-year-old son were tied up in the house.
