KZN domestic dispute ends in fatal shooting at Irish restaurant

Police have confirmed that a man is in custody and investigations into the fatal shooting of his wife are underway.

A 63-year-old man has been arrested and detained by Westville, KZN, SAPS in connection with his wife’s murder.

Highway Mail reports that it’s alleged that the couple argued before the man pulled out a gun and shot his wife (48) at Waxy O’Connors, an Irish restaurant.

Westville SAPS communications officer Captain Elizabeth Squires says the shooting followed a domestic matter between the husband and wife.

“The couple were at Waxys when the husband drew his firearm and shot the wife in the head,” she says.

In a statement, Waxy O’Connors said they are aware of an incident that occurred at Waxys in Westville, and they take the safety and well-being of their patrons and staff seriously.

“An altercation between a husband and wife turned into a domestic violence incident. Police and forensics are conducting a full investigation into the altercation. The husband has been arrested.

“We appreciate the prompt response of the authorities and emergency services. We will provide further updates as necessary and are committed to maintaining a safe environment for everyone. We are devastated by this isolated, tragic incident and the outcome,” the statement read.
