KZN police probe murder of youth shot multiple times in Wentworth

Despite paramedics’ efforts, a young man who was shot in the back multiple times died on the scene.

A 23-year-old man was shot multiple times and died at the corner of Richard Winn and Goede Hoop Roads in Wentworth, KZN, on Saturday night.

According to an article published by Southlands Sun, the victim, whose name has been withheld until his family members have been informed, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his back.

The motive for the attack is unclear, however, police are investigating a case of murder.

Police spokesperson for eThekwini District, Captain Carmen Rhynes, says Wentworth Police Station officers received information about the shooting and reacted.

“On arrival, the police found the victim lying motionless on the ground. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his back. Paramedics attended and certified him dead at the scene,” says Rhynes.

The shooters are unknown.

“The investigation is ongoing and leads are being followed up. The motive is currently unknown,” Rhynes adds.

The spokesperson for PT Alarms, Dhevan Govindasamy, says residents who gathered at the scene shortly after the shooting were reluctant to talk to the officers.

Rhynes appeals to members of the public who may have information that can assist in the investigation to contact Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
