Ladysmith KZN: 17-year-old arrested for gang rape

One of the suspects is allegedly a boyfriend of one of the victims.

Police are investigating a case of kidnapping and rape after three girls aged 14, 16 and 20 were allegedly gang raped by five suspects.

It is believed that this heinous crime took place on February 19 and 20 in eZakheni E-Section.

According to Ladysmith police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi, the three girls were in the Umbulwane area when four men driving a taxi approached them and forcefully took them to eZakheni.

“The three girls were kept in a house and were raped by five different men (the fifth suspect joined the other four in eZakheni). One of the suspects is allegedly a boyfriend of one of the victims.

The victims were released the following day (February 20).

Three suspects were arrested after the incident. One of them is a juvenile who is 17 years old.

All three suspects were remanded into custody and will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on March 1 for a bail application.
