Man drowns in flooded Ekurhuleni subway

A flooded subway claimed the life of a man whose vehicle got stuck between concrete pillars.

A body was recovered from a vehicle in a flooded subway in Stoffberg Avenue in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, yesterday.

Heavy rain flooded the underpass yesterday afternoon.

The man’s body was recovered from his vehicle, which was submerged in water.

According to City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson William Ntladi, it is alleged that a man attempted to drive through the flooded subway.

His vehicle became submerged in water and it is believed that he drowned. His vehicle was stuck between the subway’s pillars, says Ntladi.

Rescue teams from both the Brakpan and Springs fire stations, as well as the SAPS Water Wing Unit were on the scene.
