Man shot dead in Durban’s Springfield Park

Paramedics and security teams cordoned off the scene at a busy intersection in KZN’s largest city after a motorist was targeted by unknown gunmen.

A murder investigation is underway after a man, believed to be in his 30s, was found with multiple fatal gunshot wounds inside his vehicle yesterday afternoon. The motive for the daylight ambush remains entirely unknown.

Emergency services responded to the shooting at the corner of Ashfield and Willowfield roads at about 13:15, reports Northglen News.

Although information was scarce, it is believed that the man was travelling in a vehicle when unknown gunmen opened fire on him.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived to find police and several security companies already on the scene.

“Paramedics found a man, believed to be in his 30s, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was already deceased and declared dead at the scene. The events leading up to the shooting are unknown at this stage and will be investigated by SAPS,” he said.

A spokesperson for KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services said responders found the victim inside a vehicle, with multiple gunshot wounds.

“KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services, together with multiple emergency and security stakeholders, responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, responders found an adult male inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds,” the spokesperson said.

It is believed the victim was travelling in his vehicle when unknown suspects opened fire before fleeing the scene. “Sadly, the victim sustained fatal injuries and showed no signs of life. He was declared deceased on the scene.”

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting which are unknown at this stage.
