N1: Man arrested for possession of explosives in taxi
A man (31) appeared in the Temba magistrate’s court on Wednesday, September 29, for the illegal possession of explosives.
Talent Zangeni was arrested by the cross-border response team at the Carousel Toll Plaza after they stopped a minibus taxi travelling to Limpopo on Tuesday (September 28), said Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu.
Mulamu said when authorities asked for the driver and his passengers to vacate the taxi, one of the passengers allegedly jumped out and fled while shooting at the police.
“Police searched the taxi and found detonators in his luggage.”
She said the Hawks’ serious organised crime investigation team together with the Pretoria explosives unit along with other specialist units responded swiftly to the crime scene for preliminary investigations.
Investigations revealed Zangeni was travelling from Daveyton to Vuwani in Limpopo.
He was remanded in custody pending the investigation.
The case was postponed to October 6.
