Pastor arrested for rape of Limpopo high school learner

The pastor also works as a traditional healer and the girl consulted with him when the rape occurred.

A 33-year-old pastor, who also works as a traditional healer, will appear in the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court soon, on a charge of rape.

The pastor was arrested yesterday afternoon, 8 November, after a 20-year-old high school learner in the area opened a case yesterday.

A statement by Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said the girl went to visit the pastor on 18 September, for consultation.

“In the process, the suspect allegedly raped her. The victim became confused and terrified by the situation and realised at a later stage that she has been tricked and raped by the man she trusted to heal her,” Ngoepe added.

He said the pastor was traced following initial investigation, and ultimately, he was arrested.

The incident has been condemned by the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba.

“This is a clear indication that there are some men who are stubborn and refuse to heed to the clarion call by all walks of life regarding the scourge of gender-based violence. We will continue to work hard to protect the vulnerable women and children within our communities from these sexual predators who take advantage of them because of their social status,” Ledwaba remarked.

Police investigations are ongoing, Ngoepe confirmed.
