Police identify dead couple found on KZN beach
The couple, whose dead bodies were found by police on a beach in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, have been identified.
Innocent Maishi was found on the Illovo Beach about a kilometre from the Boardwalk complex in Winklespruit early on Monday, South Coast Sun reported.
Maishi allegedly sustained a gunshot wound to the head and multiple stab wounds to the back and chest.
The body of his wife, Smangele, was found some time in the afternoon at the Lovu landfill site in Lower Illovo by municipal workers, police said.
It is believed the couple left their Morningside home on Sunday evening for Umgababa.
When they failed to return that night, police were called.
The Maishis’ vehicle was found abandoned near the Lesotho border, added police.
In a separate incident, two bodies were discovered in a bush near the Black Wattle Colliery in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, early this month.
The two badly decomposed bodies were found in the veld dubbed “the bush of death” by wood collectors on Sunday, who then contacted police.
Both bodies reportedly had their hands tied behind their backs, and a gun was also found next to them.
One of the victims’ bodies was found dressed in what police believe to be a security guard’s uniform.
