Pretoria: Father pursues legal action after son loses finger at school

Part of grade 6 learner’s finger was ripped off in a scuffle when it got caught in a door when a group of boys allegedly prevented other learners from exiting a classroom.

A father wants to pursue legal action against the education department after his son lost part of his finger in a scuffle at Laerskool Booysens last month, Rekord East reports.

According to Ravhalusani Ratshitanga, his grade 6 son Khodani’s finger got caught in a door when a group of boys prevented other learners from exiting a classroom.

In the ensuing scuffle, part of Khodani’s pinkie finger was ripped off.

The displeased father said he intended to take action against the department as it failed to get in contact with them since the scuffle took place in February.

“They only called me on Friday after pressure from social media,” he said.

Taking to Twitter to respond to Ratshitanga, Gauteng education department MEC Panyaza Lesufi confirmed the incident.

“We’ve summoned the principal as this matter was not reported timeously.”

“Our team will visit the school on Monday to take appropriate action,” he tweeted.
