R400k worth of prescription medication stolen, suspects out on bail

One of the co-accused is alleged to be an ambulance assistant.

Two relatives accused of stealing medicine valued at R400 000 were granted bail in the Alexandra Magistrate’s’ Court in Johannesburg, the Alex News reports.

They will appear in court again when the police investigation is completed.

The two accused – a distributor at a medicines supply agency, and an ambulance assistant – were granted R40 000 and R10 000 bail respectively.

The two accused rented a storage facility at an undisclosed location, which the police raided after they were tipped off about suspicious activities at the facility. During the raid, the police confiscated a variety of restricted prescription medicines and drugs.

The police investigation will determine the source of the medicines and the extent of the crime.
