SA National Parks Week postponed to November
The number of Covid-19 cases throughout the country spurred the decision to postpone the National Parks Week, says SANParks general manager Rey Thakhuli.
The 16th annual South African National Parks Week has been postponed due to the number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa.
The SANPArks free access week, which is hosted in partnership with First National Bank and Total South Africa, will now be held in November, said SANParks General Manager: Media, PR & Stakeholder Relations, Rey Thakhuli in a statement on Tuesday (September 7).
“SANParks is postponing the free access week which is traditionally held in September, to November due to concerns regarding the number of Covid-19 cases across the country. The safety of both guests and staff is of utmost priority and we, therefore, have to ensure that we are in a position to effectively implement the Covid-19 visitor management procedures in all our parks at all times.”
The exact date is still to be announced, he concluded.
As of September 6, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases identified in SA was 2 824 063 with 4 118 new cases reported. A further 198 deaths brought the total number of coronavirus-related deaths to 83 617.
Meanwhile Ledet in collaboration with Limpopo Wildlife Resorts will give free access to identified reserves during the 2021 Mahala Week which takes place from September 6-12.
The Limpopo Wildlife Resorts’ Mahala Week will give visitors a chance to visit the participating parks free of charge but does not include accommodation or activities.
