SAPS, SANDF pounce on taverns operating illegally in Tshwane
Three tavern owners arrested during operations and alcohol also seized.
Alcohol was seized at three taverns operating illegally under level 3 lockdown regulations in Atteridgeville over the weekend.
The seizures were part of an operation led by police and the SANDF to ensure compliance with current lockdown measures.
“The owners were arrested,” said Atteridgeville police spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso.
About 26 people were also arrested for not wearing face masks in public areas.
Rikhotso said a man was also found in possession of suspected stolen goods and was arrested following a stop-and-search.
The SAPS warned against the constant contravention of current regulations in effect during the nationwide lockdown.
“The spread of the coronavirus is of great concern to us,” said local station commander brigadier Abraham Nkhwashu.
“We will take serious measures to ensure that regulations are adhered to by the community.”
