Security officer injured in cash-in-transit heist near Durban

The N2 near Chesterville was closed after a cash-in-transit heist sparked a major police response, with residents reportedly looting money.

Highway Mail reports that the N2 national freeway was closed off last night by police and metro police following a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says authorities responded to numerous calls for medical assistance at a CIT robbery on the N2 north bound near Chesterville, just outside the Durban CBD.

“Paramedics arrived after police had made the scene safe and found hundreds of members of the public looting money on the ground.”

Jamieson says the looters were quickly dispersed by police and paramedics were shown to two security personnel who were in the vehicle at the time of the robbery.

“Paramedics assessed the two men and one of them had sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the explosion and he was treated by ALS Paramedics,” reports Jamieson.
