Shots fired in botched Centurion robbery

Although three of the suspects were able to flee the scene in a vehicle, the fourth suspect was arrested at a nearby property by Scorpion Security.

Shots were fired and a security officer wounded when armed robbers were stopped in their tracks in a botched robbery at the Blue Valley mall, in Centurion, on Thursday morning.

“Upon our arrival, the suspects started fleeing,” Monitor Net spokesperson JP le Roux said.

Private security companies were called to the scene after security guards at the mall spotted a suspicious vehicle.

“One of the suspects started shooting at our officer. A bullet grazed his arm,” Le Roux said.

“He’s currently at the doctor, he’s not seriously injured or in a critical condition.”

Although three of the suspects were able to flee the scene in a vehicle, the fourth suspect was arrested at a nearby property by Scorpion Security.

They were said to have fled in a Toyota Corolla.

Blue Valley mall’s managing director and national team leader for tactical operations Shane Theunissen told Rekord a second suspect was located and arrested a short distance from the mall.

While the laptop the robbers managed to steal from the Ackermans store was retrieved, it was believed they intended to get away with more.

Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma was yet to comment at the time of publishing.
