Toddler remains in critical condition following Spar crash

The three-year-old girl who was critically injured following a crash at the Witpoortjie Spar in Roodepoort is reportedly in a critical condition at Garden City Hospital.

Zoe Tsotetsi’s pelvis was cracked, her liver was bleeding, and she was breathing through a ventilator following the crash,Roodepoort Record reported.

Tsotetsi’s father Innocent said they were still waiting for the doctors to give an update about her condition, but the status so far was that she was still in a serious condition.

CCTV footage, obtained by eNCA, shows the girl walking on the pavement with her parents as a car drives over the pavement and pushes her through a Spar window in Witpoortjie.

It was believed the mother had not sustained any injuries.

The driver, Charlene de Wit, was reportedly arrested later that day after she surrendered herself to Roodepoort police, but she was told to return to the scene.

The shop owner, Johnny Gonsalves told The Citizen that she is still in the process of recieving quotes from different companies to ascertain the cost of damges. Earlier reports estimated about R70 000 worth of damages.

“We are somehow able to close the entrance doors so we will be able to keep the shop safe. It is still business as usual for us,” said Gonsalves.

Roodepoort police have committed to commenting at a later stage.

Investigations are ongoing.
