Trucks set alight in Bethal
Two truck drivers narrowly escaped the flames when their vehicles were set alight in separate incidents in Bethal’s mid-town during the night.
The police received a complaint about a burning truck at Naude Street in Bethal next to Mica at about 1am on Tuesday, 24 November.
Upon arrival at the scene, police found a truck on fire.
According to Const Thomas Mogadime, spokesperson for Bethal Police, it is alleged that the truck driver parked his truck next to Mica on Monday, 23 November, at about 8.30pm to get some rest.
He was awakened by the noise of a breaking window.
“He then noticed the truck burning, which was caused by a petrol bomb that was thrown into the truck,” said Const Mogadime.

In a separate incident in the same area, another truck driver also alleged that he parked his truck at Mica for a delivery.
“While sleeping in the truck, the truck driver was woken up by flames and smoke from the truck.
He and an assistant managed to escape,” said Const Mogadime.
The estimated damage caused to the trucks is said to be R1.75-million.
Police request anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) to contact Detective Sergeant December Jele at 082 579 0177.
