Two men decapitated by goods train at Tongaat

The circumstances leading up to the deaths are being investigated.

Two men were decapitated this morning when a goods train is said to have collided with them along the railway line at Plane Street, Tongaat.

A passerby reported the incident to local private security company, Reaction Unit South Africa.

Reaction Unit South Africa medics and officers at the scene earlier this morning.

Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson, Prem Balram said they sent medics and officers to the scene and found railway authorities already in attendance.

“It is alleged that the two men were vagrants who slept under a bridge next to the railway line,” Balram said.

The circumstances leading up to the incident are being investigated.

It is dangerous and illegal to cross the railway anywhere except at a pedestrian level crossing.

However even at a designated crossing, pedestrians are urged to remain vigilant and obey the rules of the road.

According to Arrive Alive, train drivers are at every incident heavily traumatised since they are helpless and unable to stop the train in time.
