Boinelelo Lefefa (43), who has been accused of brutally killing his Sibanye-Stillwater colleague, made his first appearance in the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

According to Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, he is facing a charge of premeditated murder.

Mjonondwane says that last Thursday, the accused went to the Leseding hostel’s premises in search of the deceased. He saw the deceased at a nearby spaza shop and approached him.

She explains that Lefafa allegedly stabbed the deceased several times before cutting open his stomach and attempting to cut off his head.

He then took out his cellphone to take photos and make videos, while posing next to the deceased.

“The security personnel at the mine did not intervene as they were not armed,” Mjonondwane says.

She adds that the heinous crime was committed in broad daylight in front of onlookers.

The photographs and videos were circulated on social media.

“The accused handed over the knife to the police and is currently in custody. The case has been postponed to November 20 for legal representation and a formal bail application,” Mjonondwane says.
