UFC champion Dricus 'Stillknocks' du Plessis tested the updated Mercedes-AMG G63 and all-electric Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology.
UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus ‘Stillknocks’ du Plessis recently partnered with Mercedes-Benz South Africa for an exclusive driving experience, putting two very different G-Class models to the test: the updated Mercedes-AMG G63 and all-electric Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology.

The South African UFC fighter took to Instagram to share his thoughts on Mercedes-AMG G63 and G580 with EQ Technology, praising the G580 in particular. “One of the best 4x4s I’ve ever driven,” Du Plessis wrote. Considering its specs, it’s easy to see why. The G580 is powered by four electric motors —one at each wheel — for a total power output of 432kW and a staggering 1 165Nm of torque. The emissions-free G-Class features ‘G-Turn’ tank-turn functionality and a bespoke chassis setup, offering serious off-road capability. In South Africa, the all-electric G carries a price tag of R4 647 456.

By contrast, the updated Mercedes-AMG G63 sticks with a 4.0-litre V8 heart. As a reminder, the twin-turbocharged petrol unit churns out 430kW and 850Nm for a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 4.4s. In addition, thanks to the incorporation of mild-hybrid tech, an additional 15kW is available for short durations.
