The electric legend arrives: Introducing the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology
The unthinkable has happened - Mercedes-Benz unveils its first fully electric G-Class, seamlessly blending iconic heritage with cutting-edge EV technology.
Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-new G 580 with EQ technology, marking the first fully electric iteration of its legendary Gelandewagen. This model uniquely merges the G-Class’s enduring tradition with the advancements of electric mobility.
The electric G-Class maintains its iconic angular silhouette, distinctive door handles and wing-mounted indicators while incorporating subtle EQ design cues. The front remains instantly recognisable with classic round headlights and a four-horizontal-louvre radiator grille, finished in body colour with matching mirror housings as standard. An optional black-panel grille offers a distinct look with tinted lights, an animated LED light band, and chrome surround, which can also function as a daytime running light.
Edition One: An exclusive launch offering
The launch is accompanied by the exclusive Edition One, available in five MANUFAKTUR paint finishes. It features a blue trim insert on the outer protective moulding, blue brake callipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering, and a design box on the rear door in body colour and black. A rear-mounted spare wheel is optional.
Standard features on the Edition One include the AMG Line and Night Package, comprising high-gloss black 20-inch AMG alloy wheels and tinted lights. Black accents adorn the door handle buttons with the G logo and the mirror housings, while the running boards are silver (black optional). The interior features silver pearl/black nappa leather upholstery, a nappa leather multifunction sports steering wheel, blue carbon-fibre trim and blue stitching.

Aerodynamics and acoustic refinement
Design enhancements contribute to improved aerodynamics, including a slightly raised bonnet and ‘air curtains’ in the rear wheel arches, along with new A-pillar cladding and a roof spoiler. New insulation materials enhance cabin acoustic comfort.
The G 580 with EQ Technology rides on aerodynamically optimised 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. Adaptive Multibeam LED headlights and heat-insulating dark-tinted rear windows are also standard. Silver EQ badges on the front wings denote its electric powertrain.
A practical option is the rear door-mounted rectangular design box for storing charging cables and tools. Alternatively, the traditional spare wheel with a designer cover (standard) can be chosen.
Interior and infotainment
The interior combines high-quality materials with the classic G-Class design, featuring square-edged air vents and a prominent passenger grab handle. Standard trim is open-pore natural walnut wood, complemented by a nappa leather multifunction steering wheel, ambient lighting and leather upholstery.
The MBUX infotainment system, with a 12.3-inch driver and media display featuring touch controls, is standard. It offers personalised suggestions and smartphone integration via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The MBUX voice assistant understands natural language and G-Class-specific commands. The MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation system overlays graphics onto a live video, providing enhanced guidance, including traffic light assistance.

Electric powertrain and performance
The electric G-Class features four individually controlled electric motors near the wheels, making it the first mass-produced Mercedes-Benz with individual-wheel drive. Integrated into the ladder frame, these motors (108kW peak each) deliver a combined 432kW and 1 164Nm of torque, distributed precisely via ESP and the central powertrain control.
This enables 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.7 seconds, with a limited top speed of 180 km/h. The instant torque provides exceptional pulling power and control on inclines and loose surfaces.
Virtual differential locks and off-road capability
Utilising torque vectoring, the electric G-Class employs virtual differential locks for precise torque distribution to each wheel, ensuring confident off-road performance without the need for manual engagement. This system maximises traction and agility.
Battery and charging
A 116kWh (usable capacity) lithium-ion battery, integrated into the reinforced ladder frame for a low centre of gravity and rigidity, provides a WLTP range of up to 473km. The battery is protected by a torsion-resistant casing.
The vehicle supports AC charging up to 11kW and DC fast charging up to 200kW, allowing for a 10-80% charge in about 32 minutes.

Off-road prowess
The electric G-Class retains and enhances its off-road capabilities, boasting a maximum fording depth of 850mm. The modified ladder frame, double-wishbone front suspension, and redesigned De Dion rear axle ensure exceptional performance.
Standard adaptive adjustable damping further enhances off-road confidence.
Low range and innovative functions
The electric G-Class features a switchable low range off-road gear reduction, with individual transmissions for each wheel-mounted motor. This enables maximum torque and efficient temperature management. A high-range on-road setting optimises range. Innovative off-road functions include G-Turn, G-Steering, and an intelligent off-road crawl function. The G-Roar sound experience provides a unique G-Class driving sound.
