A beautifully restored 1956 Maserati 200S which fills the annals of history as a rare prototype racer that once competed around circuits in the hands of privateers like Gilberto Cornacchia and Mennato Boffa sits in its red glory. Built between 1955 and 1957, the Maserati was the second-ever race model and packed a 1.99-litre inline-four engine with twin Weber carbs, good for 140kW at a screaming 7 400r/min.

After bowing out of motorsport in 1960, this specific 200S was kept in Maserati’s own stables until 1999 before finding its way into private hands. Its recent restoration has returned it to peak period-correct condition — and during Milan Design Week 2025, it will serve as a gleaming reminder of Maserati’s motorsport roots.

This all serves as a lead-up to FuoriConcorso, a curated celebration of automotive culture taking place on May 24–25 at Lake Como’s Villa del Grumello and Villa Sucota — where this 200S will no doubt look right at home against the postcard-perfect backdrop.
